The St Jude/Hospital Bloom twinning program

This program has been a great success and the lessons learned now form a blueprint for all twinning programs:

• programs must have local ownership, partnered by expertise in a high income country;
• a dedicated pediatric oncology unit and team (center of excellence) is essential;
• local fundraising must be developed to support sustainability over time;
• alliances must be made between the public and private sectors;
• a domiciliary infrastructure must be established to support families travelling long distances to the center of excellence.
